He is best known for his detective novels featuring Holland Taylor and Rushmore McKenzie, set primarily in the Midwest, particularly around St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. An Edgar Award winner from the Mystery Writers of America, his debut novel "Penance" also received a nomination from the PWA.
