David C. Hodge, born on September 27, 1948, in Stewartville, Minnesota, served as the 21st president of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from July 1, 2006, until June 30, 2016. Prior to this role, he was the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington and also chaired the Department of Geography. He earned his bachelor's degree in geography from Macalester College in 1970 and his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University in 1975. Hodge announced his retirement from the university presidency on May 1, 2015.
