David Ackland Tanner is a Danish-Scottish chemist and professor of organic chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark since 1995. Born on November 17, 1955, in Inverness, Scotland, he studied chemistry at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with Summa cum laude in 1977. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1981 from the University of Gothenburg and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. Tanner has worked extensively in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry and has been an external advisor to the Nobel Committee.
