He occasionally filled in as the lead guitarist, particularly on the song 'Streetcar' from the album 'Hours'. Prior to joining Funeral for a Friend, he played in bands like Tripcage and January Thirst, where he worked alongside Kris Roberts. In April 2010, Smith announced his decision to leave the band.
