Daniel Kleppner, born in 1932, is an emeritus professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and co-director of the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms. His work focuses on atomic and molecular science, optical physics, and high-precision measurements, particularly in atomic physics and laser spectroscopy. He received the Wolf Prize in Physics in 2005 and the Benjamin Franklin Medal in 2014. Kleppner is also a co-recipient of the National Medal of Science in 2006 and has authored a graduate mechanics textbook. He earned his degrees from Williams College, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard University.
