Sir David Henry Davies, known as Dai Davies, was a prominent Welsh trade unionist and official in the Labour Party, born on December 1, 1909. He became involved with the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation, rising through ranks from assistant general secretary in 1953 to general secretary in 1967 until 1975. An active member of the Labour Party, he held the positions of chairman in 1963 and treasurer in 1965. He was honored as a Knight Bachelor in the New Year Honours of 1973 for his contributions.
