She spent significant time in Germany and Panama during her childhood, where she studied flute. Folio pursued music theory and flute at the Eastman School of Music and later composition at West Chester University. She has received multiple awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award and the ASCAP Standard Award. In addition to her compositions, she teaches music theory and composition at Temple University and has performed with various ensembles.
