Curtis Emerson LeMay was a prominent American air force general known for his controversial yet effective strategic bombing campaign in the Asian and Pacific theaters during World War II. He rose through the ranks after joining the Army Air Corps in 1929, and led significant bombing operations against Japan. He later served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965 and was involved in key military actions during the Cold War, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. LeMay ran for vice president in 1968.
