Cristina Castagna, also known as Grillo or Grijo, was an Italian mountaineer born on December 23, 1977, in San Quirico di Valdagno. She gained recognition for being the first woman from Italy to summit Makalu. Tragically, she died in a climbing accident on Broad Peak on July 18, 2009, shortly after achieving the summit.
