José Ruíz Arroyo, known as Corruco de Algeciras, was a renowned flamenco singer from the early 20th century. Born on January 21, 1910, in La Línea de la Concepción, he moved to Algeciras shortly after birth. Famous for his fandango singing, he innovated traditional styles and recorded several albums in the 1930s. He also sang various flamenco forms, including bulerías and soleares. His socially charged lyrics forced him to flee to the Republican front at the onset of the Spanish Civil War. He died in the Battle of Ebro on April 11, 1938, at the young age of 28.
