Clyde Bellecourt, also known as Nee-gon-we-way-we-dun, was a prominent Chippewa activist born on May 8, 1936, in White Earth, Minnesota. He co-founded the American Indian Movement (AIM) in 1968 with his brother Vernon and Dennis Banks to address police violence and discrimination against Native Americans. A key figure in indigenous rights, he participated in significant events such as the 1972 occupation of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the 1973 Wounded Knee incident. In 1994, he and his brother left AIM and established the National American Indian Movement Inc.
