She made history as the first African-Canadian graduate from the Nova Scotia Hospital School of Nursing. Additionally, Douglas-Yakimchuk broke barriers by becoming the first black president of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Nova Scotia, contributing significantly to the nursing profession and advocating for diversity and inclusion.
