He was born on December 28, 1909, in Ludwigsburg and passed away on April 28, 1967, in Bad Salzuflen. Hinkelbein was among the passengers of the ill-fated airship LZ 129 'Hindenburg' in 1937. His military career was marked by significant service during his time as a pilot.
