Claude Elwood Shannon (1916-2001) was an American mathematician, electronic engineer, and cryptographer, known as the 'father of information theory.' He formulated information theory in a groundbreaking paper published in 1948. Additionally, he established concepts in digital computing and digital circuit design while being a master's student at MIT in 1937. Shannon also contributed to cryptanalysis, which was utilized by Allied forces during World War II, including fundamental work on codebreaking and secure telecommunications.
