Claude Piel (15 January 1921 – 19 August 1982) was a prominent French aircraft designer, known for creating light aircraft. Born in Paris to an aeronautical carpenter, he designed notable planes including the Emeraude and Diamant. His first design, the CP10, was a prototype. Piel’s career began at Boisavia in 1948, followed by significant roles at several companies, where he produced successful aircraft, particularly the Emeraude. He later designed the CP.60 Diamant and CP.80 racer, contributing greatly to the field of aeronautics.
