Corey Brent Penn, known as CL Smooth, is an American rapper born on October 8, 1968, in New Rochelle, New York. He gained fame primarily through his collaboration with producer Pete Rock as the duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth. After the duo disbanded in 1995, CL Smooth stepped back from the music scene, making only occasional guest appearances. Notably, he featured on Pete Rock's 1998 solo album 'Soul Survivor.' In 2006, more than a decade after their last album as a duo, he released his debut solo album 'American Me.'
