After earning his medical degree in 1970, he became a researcher in nutrition at UiO and later defended his doctoral thesis on cholesteryl ester metabolism. Drevon has held various academic positions, including professor and head of the Department of Nutrition Science. He has also contributed to public discussions on obesity and diabetes, holding patents related to medical treatments, and has written books on nutrition.
