Chip Peterson is an American long-distance swimmer born on December 3, 1987, in Morehead City, North Carolina. He gained recognition in 2005 by winning the gold medal in the 10-kilometer event at the World Championships in Montréal and silver in the 5-kilometer event. That same year, he was named Open Water Swimmer of the Year alongside Thomas Lurz. Peterson continued his success in 2006 at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, winning the 10-kilometer open water event, and further excelled by winning both 5 and 10-kilometer events at the 2007 Open Water National Championships.
