Chen Chien-nien is a former Taiwanese politician, born on October 10, 1947, in Taitung. He began his political career in 1981 as a Taitung councillor for the Kuomintang (KMT) and later served as Taitung magistrate from 1993 to 2001, becoming the only indigenous politician in Taiwan to hold such a position. In 2002, he left the KMT to join the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as the Minister of Council of Aboriginal Affairs but resigned in 2005 due to a vote-buying scandal. He was sentenced to nine months in jail after a failed appeal in 2012.
