Charles Alexander Shain was an Australian radio astronomy pioneer, born on February 6, 1922. He studied physics at the University of Melbourne and graduated in 1942. After serving in the Second Australian Imperial Force, he contributed to radio countermeasures at CSIRO Radiophysics Laboratory. Following World War II, Shain became a pioneer in decametre radio astronomy, focusing on H II regions and the ionosphere's effects on radio signals. He passed away on February 11, 1960, due to cancer, leaving a wife and three children.
