Chang Hyŏk-chu (also known as Noguchi Kakuchū) was a prominent Korean-Japanese writer born on October 13, 1905, known for his works during the colonial period. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of 'Zainichi Korean literature.' His literary debut was in 1932 with 'Gaki-do.' His early works showcased the struggles of Korean farmers and were influenced by proletarian literature. He shifted his focus post-World War II to children's literature and social issues, changing his pen name to Noguchi Kakuchū, ultimately publishing an English novel about early 17th-century Japanese persecution in 1991.
