Cesare De Silvestri was an Italian psychiatrist and psychotherapist, born in Viterbo on August 31, 1926, and passed away in Rome on September 21, 2009. From 1974 until his death, he significantly contributed to the dissemination of cognitive-behavioral therapy in Italy, particularly the Rational-Emotive Therapy developed by Albert Ellis. After training with Ellis in the United States, he founded the Institute for Rational-Emotive Therapy in Rome during the late 1970s, evolving it into the Albert Ellis Institute – Italy.
