Casimiro Ferrari was an Italian mountaineer born on June 18, 1940, in Lecco. He was part of the 1974 expedition that made the first undisputed ascent of Cerro Torre in Patagonia. This mountain was previously claimed to have been summited in 1959 by Cesare Maestri and Toni Egger, though this claim remains controversial. Ferrari also climbed South American peaks such as Aconcagua in 1966 and Cerro Murallón in 1984. He attempted to summit Shishapangma, the lowest eight-thousander, in 1987. He passed away in Lecco on September 4, 2001, at the age of 61.
