Carol Muske-Dukes is an American poet, novelist, essayist, critic, and professor, born in 1945 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She served as the poet laureate of California from 2008 to 2011. Muske-Dukes’ notable work includes her poetry book 'Sparrow', published in 2003, which reflects on the themes of love and loss following the death of her husband, actor David Dukes. The book was recognized as a National Book Award finalist, highlighting her significant contributions to contemporary American poetry.
