Maria Carme Gala i Fernández, known as Carme Gala, is a translator born in Barcelona in 1955. At eighteen, she moved to Germany, where she lived for nearly a decade. She gained recognition in 1982 for her literary translations of works such as Georg Büchner's Woyzeck and Heinrich Böll's Opinions of a Clown. Gala has translated nearly fifty German literary works into Catalan, including stories by Stefan Zweig, Patrick Süskind, Franz Kafka, Goethe, and Thomas Mann. She also has an interest in children's literature, translating around twenty titles, and has worked on articles and scripts for media outlets.
