Carlos Santamaría Ansa (1909-1997) was a Spanish mathematician and humanist who played a key role in promoting the University in Guipúzcoa. He served as the director of the Igueldo meteorological observatory and was an education advisor on the General Council of the Basque Country in 1978. In addition to his academic contributions, he was passionate about promoting the Basque language in scientific fields and participated in European Catholic and pacifist groups. The central library at the University of the Basque Country in San Sebastián is named after him.
