Carl Edward Sagan (November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996) was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science writer. He significantly contributed to the discovery of high surface temperatures on Venus and is best known for his research on extraterrestrial life. Sagan created the first physical messages sent into space, including the Pioneer plaque and Voyager Golden Record. He authored over 60 scientific papers and more than 20 books, including popular science works like 'The Dragons of Eden' and 'Pale Blue Dot'. He was also the host and writer of the acclaimed TV series 'Cosmos: A Personal Voyage'.
