Carl-Eric Thors was a Finnish linguist born on June 8, 1920, in Oravainen, and he passed away on October 4, 1986, in Helsinki. He served as an associate professor at the University of Helsinki from 1958 to 1960 and was a professor of Swedish language at the University of Jyväskylä from 1960 to 1962. From 1963 to 1985, he held the position of professor of Nordic philology at the University of Helsinki. Thors published research focused on the onomastics of Old Swedish and Finland-Swedish. His daughter, Astrid Thors, is a member of Parliament.
