Bruce Hapke is an American planetary scientist known for his expertise in bidirectional reflection spectroscopy. Often regarded as a pioneer in planetary remote sensing, he has significantly contributed to missions such as Mariner 10, Viking, and Apollo. He earned his B.S. in physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1953 and received a Ph.D. in engineering physics from Cornell University in 1962. Currently a professor emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh, Hapke has received numerous honors, including the Kuiper Prize in 2001 and the naming of an asteroid and a lunar mineral in his honor.
