Brita Malmer was a prominent Swedish archaeologist, specializing in numismatics. She received her habilitation from Lund University in 1966. Married to archaeology professor Mats P. Malmer, she became the director of the Royal Coin Cabinet in Stockholm in 1971, which became independent in 1975. In 1979, she held the Gunnar Ekström Professorship in Numismatics at Stockholm University. Malmer was a leading expert in early medieval coinage in Scandinavia, influencing Nordic medieval numismatics since the mid-20th century and received numerous awards for her contributions.
