Brita Edfelt was a prominent Swedish translator born on August 15, 1908, in Helsingborg. She translated works primarily from German and to a lesser extent from English and Norwegian. Edfelt studied English at Columbia University in the 1930s and worked as a translator from the early 1950s to the mid-1990s, translating classics and key authors such as Bertolt Brecht and Siegfried Lenz. She was also actively involved in the translators' union, serving as the first secretary of the Swedish Translators' Association and later within the Swedish Writers' Union. Edfelt passed away on November 27, 2006, in Stockholm.
