Aside from his political role, he was the president of the Wrestling Federation of India. His son, Karan Bhushan Singh, succeeded him as the BJP candidate in 2024 and won by a significant margin. His career has been controversial, involving his arrest related to the Babri Masjid demolition and allegations of sexual harassment from several prominent female wrestlers.
