Brigitte Bierlein is an Austrian jurist and politician who served as the Chancellor of Austria from June 2019 to January 2020, making her the first woman to hold this position. She was the Attorney General from 1990 to 2002, and a member of the Executive Board of the International Association of Prosecutors from 2001 to 2003. In 2003, she was appointed to the Constitutional Court of Austria. Bierlein served as the Court's president from January 2018 to June 2019, also as the first woman to do so. She was appointed Chancellor after a no-confidence vote against Sebastian Kurz's government.
