Brigid Makowski (née Sheils) was an influential Irish Republican activist and politician born on January 6, 1937, in Derry, Northern Ireland. Active from the 1960s, she joined the Official Sinn Féin party in 1970 after the split in Sinn Féin. Following a ceasefire by the Official Irish Republican Army in 1974, she co-founded the Irish Republican Socialist Party. In 1981, she was elected to the Shannon Town Commission and later joined the Clare County Council in the 1990s, playing a significant role in local politics until her passing on April 15, 2017.
