Branka Jurca was a Slovene writer born on May 24, 1914, known for her contributions to children's and young adult literature. After her family moved to Maribor post-World War I, she became a teacher. During World War II, she was involved with the Slovene Liberation Front but was imprisoned in Gonars and Ravensbrück concentration camps. After the war, she resumed her teaching career and later became an editor for Ciciban. Jurca authored 35 stories and won the Levstik Award twice, passing away in Ljubljana on March 6, 1999.
