Robert William Gillson was an American football player and coach, born on May 4, 1905. He played college football at Colgate and in the NFL for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1930 to 1931, appearing in 23 games. Post his playing career, he transitioned to coaching, serving at Middlebury College and Colgate. He also contributed to physical education at Colgate and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. Later, he returned to Colgate as a line coach.
