Bjarne Richard Holmbom, born on September 28, 1943, in Inkoo, is a Finnish professor emeritus of wood and paper chemistry at Åbo Akademi, where he has largely developed his career. He received his doctorate in 1978 and held various positions, including assistant professor, research professor, and regular professor. Holmbom was an Academy Professor at the Academy of Finland from 1998 to 2003. He has received several awards, including the Finnish Science Prize in 2005 and the prestigious Marcus Wallenberg Prize in 2008. He is also a former high jumper with notable achievements.
