Kyai Haji Bisri Mustofa was a prominent figure in Nahdlatul Ulama, born in 1915 in Rembang, Central Java. He was known for his devoutness and deep affection for Kiai, influenced by his wealthy merchant father and his mother of Makassar descent. He passed away at the age of 63 on February 16, 1977, during a politically significant time in Indonesia as the country prepared for the 1977 elections. Bisri Mustofa also served as a member of the Indonesian Constituent Assembly, representing Nahdlatul Ulama.
