Benjamin G. Chitwood (1907-1972) was an American zoologist known for his pioneering work in nematology. He co-authored 'An Introduction to Nematology' with his wife, contributing significantly to the field. Chitwood identified the nematode species Globodera rostochiensis in 1941 and revised the taxonomy of Meloidogyne incognita in 1949, affecting research and control strategies. He served as president of the Helminthological Society of Washington in 1949 and became a Life Member in 1968.
