Ben L. Culwell (1918-1992) was an American painter associated with the abstract expressionist movement. He is renowned for participating in the Museum of Modern Art's 1946 Fourteen Americans exhibition. His art is part of several notable collections, including those in Houston and New York City. Noteworthy exhibitions include a 1977 retrospective at McNay Art Museum and a 1987 showcase at the Menil Collection. In 2007, his work appeared in the Baylor University exhibition Texas Modern: The Rediscovery of Early Texas Abstraction 1935–1965.
