Ben Carson, born on September 18, 1951, is an American politician, government official, author, and retired neurosurgeon. He served as the 17th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the U.S. Carson was a candidate in the 2016 Republican presidential primaries and is recognized for his groundbreaking work in neurosurgery. Notable achievements include performing the first successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head and developing innovative surgical techniques. He has received numerous accolades, including more than 60 honorary doctorates and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008.
