Béchir Selmi, born on January 22, 1955, in Kairouan, is a renowned Tunisian violinist and composer. He is celebrated as one of the leading figures in Arab music, known for his harmonious blend of Maghreb and Mashrek musical modes while adhering to traditional aesthetics. A graduate in Arabic letters, he joined the ERTT music troupe in 1974, becoming its conductor in 1993. Following a controversial concert in Eilat in 2010, he was dismissed but was later appointed to direct the national radio's musical service in 2011. Besides his musical career, Selmi was also a politician associated with the Democratic Constitutional Rally.
