Basil Gordon Collyns was a New Zealand flying ace of the RNZAF during World War II, credited with at least five aerial victories. Born on February 24, 1913, in Greymouth, he joined the RNZAF in 1939. After training, he served with the RAF, taking part in key operations including the Battle of Britain. He held various posts, including instructing duties and supporting Operation Overlord, before being killed in action on August 20, 1944.
