William Barry Pennington (1923-1968) was a British mathematician renowned for his contributions to Ramanujan's tau function. He received his education at Loughborough Grammar School and Jesus College, Cambridge. Pennington served as a Radar Officer during World War II and completed his doctorate under Albert Edward Ingham. He held academic positions at Harvard and Westfield College, University of London, later becoming Professor of Pure Mathematics at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, until his death.
