Bantubonke Harrington Holomisa, born July 25, 1955, in Mqanduli, Transkei, is a South African politician representing the United Democratic Movement. He joined the Transkei military in 1976, rising to brigadier by 1985. Holomisa led a coup against Prime Minister Stella Sigcau in 1987, ruling Transkei until 1994. Elected to the ANC's national executive in 1994, he served as Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. He left the ANC in 1996 after testifying before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In 1997, he co-founded the UDM and was elected to parliament in 1999.
