Yamanokuchi Baku, born Yamaguchi Shūsaburō, was a notable Japanese poet born on September 11, 1903, in Naha, Okinawa. He moved to Tokyo in 1923, where he became associated with fellow writers such as Satō Haruo and Kaneko Mitsuharu. His debut poetry collection, 'Shiben no sono,' published in 1936, earned him significant acclaim. Baku critically reflected on the American occupation of his native Okinawa. After his death on July 19, 1963, his posthumous collection 'Maguro ni Iwashi' was released in 1964.
