Azar Nafisi is an Iranian writer and professor at Johns Hopkins University, born in 1955. She worked as an English literature professor at the University of Tehran and other institutions before being expelled for refusing to wear a hijab. In 1997, she left Iran for the United States. Nafisi has written numerous articles for major publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. She frequently participates in interviews and media appearances. Currently, she resides in Washington, D.C. with her husband and children.
