Auguste-Louis Loubatières was a French endocrinologist known for his contributions to the development of sulfonamide antidiabetic medications. Born on December 28, 1912, in Agde, he demonstrated the hypoglycemic effects of certain antibacterials and established the necessity of a pancreas for these effects in 1942. He became a free member of the Academy of Sciences in 1967. The lycée in Agde was renamed in his honor. He passed away on January 9, 1977, in Montpellier, where he is also buried.
