She taught Middle Greek at the University of La Sapienza in Rome and later held a professorship in Byzantine Philology at the University of Salerno. Acconcia Longo's research focused on hymnography, religious and secular poetry, historiography, and hagiography, particularly Italogreek literature. She edited scholarly journals and contributed to various publications. Her academic career spanned several decades until her retirement in 2010.
