Atma Ram was an Indian scientist born on 12 October 1908 in Pilana village, Uttar Pradesh. He served as the Director of the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute and later became the Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in 1966. He was the Principal Advisor on Science and Technology to the Prime Minister from 1977 to 1983. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1959. The Atmaram Award was established in his memory by the Central Institute of Hindi.
